6 Reasons why Japanese Men Are NOT Attractive!

There are many articles on Internet, saying that Japanese men aren’t very attractive to many women all over the world. Meanwhile Japanese women are very popular worldwide. Why is that? In fact, some traits of Japanese men are very unattractive to most women who grew up in Western countries. As a Japanese woman who has many experience dating Japanese men, I will explain why Japanese men act the way they do.

6 Reasons why Japanese Men Are NOT Attractive!

1. They are not very gentleman

Although most Japanese men are very polite, you might have noticed that they are not quite gentleman. They might forget to open the door for you. They don’t carry a heavy bag for you. They don’t let women enter rooms first. You might believe that Japanese men are not very nice from Western standards. In fact, Japanese men aren’t simple raised to show respect to women. Most Japanese men are told that it is women who must show respect towards them.

2. They don’t show affection

Western men show their affection by kissing or hugging, even between friends. Compared to them, Japanese men seems shy and reserved. Even if you are in a romantic relationship, Japanese men rarely show their affection. They don’t kiss a lot. They don’t say, “I love you” either. It’s because they are simply not used to showing their feelings. They also care about what other people would think, including you. Therefore they worry that they would make fun of themselves if they try to show their feelings. Japanese men are very sensitive like that.

3. They look feminine

Compare to Western standard of masculinity, Japanese men aren’t very masculine. They are usually smaller than Western men. They are also skinnier. On top of that, they are more fashion conscious than most Western men. Trendy men go to hair salon often to get the special hair cut. They also carry handbags, just like women. Although they are not very manly in the Western standard of masculinity, Japanese women say the contrary. If you see the popular pop stars or actors on Japanese TV, you notice that most of them are skinny and fashion conscious. In fact, many Japanese women find them more attractive than men who don’t take care of their appearance at all.

4. They don’t talk much

While most Western men are out-going and love to chat, Japanese men seem extremely shy and reserved in comparison. It is true that they don’t talk much. They also worry about what to say when they have to have a conversation with other people. As a result, they tend to be very awkward in conversations. I believe that Japanese people, in general, care too much of what other people would think. Therefore Japanese men usually over think and choke in conversations. Unless they are talking with people they know very well, they will feel stressed to have a conversation.

5. They look down on women

Although not all Japanese men are machos who look down on women, there are still many gender biases in Japan. Some Japanese men still believe that women should stay home and raise children after getting married. In a company, women should be serving coffee or tea to their masculine coworkers. If men and women are in a restaurant, women should serve drinks to men. These traits are highly unattractive to most women who grew up in a Western society, where gender equality is important. Sadly, it is a fact that there are still primitive ideas of how men should behave and how women should behave in Japanese society. As I said earlier, there are Japanese men who believe in gender equality. Yet it is also true that I have heard many men say that their ideal woman would be someone who can cook well and who are thoughtful (that is usually a code for someone who can serve others well).

6. They work too much

It is related to the gender role in Japanese society. Since Japanese men usually provide for a family, they take work very seriously. They spend crazily long hours at work. It’s cliché but true. When Western women (or even Japanese women) date Japanese men, women usually complain that men love work more than their family or girlfriend. It is actually very hard to work in Japan, since many companies ask their employees to invest a lot. Employees also need to sustain a good relationship with their supervisors in order to get a better position in the company. That’s why they can’t say no if their boss ask them to go for a drink after work.

Conclusion

Japanese men are very different from Western men in many respects. If you start to date a Japanese man, you should keep in mind of those traits that you might not like. It is also true, however, that Japanese men who date non-Japanese women are more open-minded. You might be surprised to find out that Japanese men can be quite attractive.
