6 Facts why Foreign People Come to Roppongi!

Have you heard about Roppongi? It is one of the most famous places in my country, Japan and there are a lot of foreign people in Roppongi –but why? Here, I would like to introduce 6 facts about Roppongi.

6 Facts why Foreign People Come to Roppongi!

1. Embassy

One of the biggest reason why a lot of foreign people go to Roppongi is its location -many embassies are located in or close to Roppongi. Compared to other areas, people might feel safer to hang around the area because of the embassies -imagine when you are in an unfamiliar place and find just one restaurant that serves your home country’s food. I think you’ll feel very comfortable. Moreover, it is easier for restaurants’ owners to open new stores serving their home countries’ food since there might be more chances that customers who are familiar with the meals are coming to the places. Considering these things, Roppongi provide foreign people with comfortable places to hang out.

2. Bar/Club

As I mentioned above, Roppongi has a lot of places that foreign people might feel comfortable to be in –one of these places would be bars and/or clubs. In Japan, bars and especially clubs are traditionally thought to be the place where a lot of people avoid –because of the stereotypes that bars/clubs are kind of scary. So there might not be a lot of clubs that people can go easily. But in Roppongi, there are many well-known bars and clubs that both foreign and domestic people are often going. In that kind of places, they can hang out not only with people from the same countries/cultures but also people from all over the world. It is often difficult to make friends with people having different cultural back ground –but it might be easier with alcohol and with the atmosphere of bars/clubs. If you would like to make friends with Japanese people, why don’t you try going to bars/clubs in Roppongi?

3. Department stores

These days, many shopping places have been built in Roppongi –such as Roppongi hills and Tokyo midtown. These are not like a local shopping mall but are targeting those who are relatively in higher class since most of the stores in these places are famous brands like Louis Vuitton and Gucci. In addition to shopping, I would recommend you to go up Roppongi hills’ observation deck –it is impressive to see the scenery around Tokyo from the top. If you don’t want to go shopping at a local mall and/or the places where there are too many people, try Roppongi next time.

4. Music

In addition to those shopping places, Roppongi has one of the biggest concert hall in Japan- which is called “Suntory Hall”. This is the first concert-only theater in Tokyo and now a lot of orchestras and musicians (mostly classical music) all over the world are coming to show their performance. Furthermore, there is another hall called Zepp Blue Theater Roppongi. This is originally built for blueman musical show but later it became a theater mainly for musical performance like J-POP. Thus, no matter what kind of genres of music you like, there are various music performances in Roppongi. Look for your favorite artists and enjoy concerts there next time!

5. Art

Not only music, but Roppongi is also famous for art museum –which is the National Art Center, Tokyo. Although it doesn’t have its own collections, they often exhibit various kinds of arts all over the world. Thus, one of their exhibition got the first prize in the number of people who visited. Moreover, since it is the biggest art museum in Japan, you might be able to spend one day enjoying the art there. Check their website and enjoy art here in Roppongi!

6. Great access

Above all, Roppongi is located in a great location –since it has a station of Hibiya subway line, you don’t have to change trains to get there from other major areas such as Ueno, Akihabara, Ginza, Hibiya and Ebisu. This great access might makes people around Tokyo to come to Roppongi to enjoy various activities as I mentioned above. If there weren’t the traffic transportations to go to Roppongi, there might be less people even if there were wonderful places to visit. Wherever in Tokyo you are at, visit Roppongi to enjoy your favorite activities!

Conclusion

There are various different things that you can enjoy in Roppongi –such as music, art, and shopping. Use the great public transportation and visit Roppongi just to hang out or to find your favorite places there next weekend!
