Daidai is one of the citrus fruits. The skin is very thick and a lot of seeds in it –and it tastes very sour but smells fresh. Daidai is very rich in nutrition such as citric acid, Vitamin B1, B2 and C. Thus, it has good effects on various stomach diseases. Furthermore, White peaches have a lot of vitamin C which makes skin clear and one’s body stay healthy. In addition to eating, we also love looking at the flower in early spring. For instance, on March 3rd, which is the girl’s day, we decorate some peach flowers with Hina dolls. It would be interesting if you look at them from different perspectives!

Watermelons contain potassium and citrulline which have a diuretic effect. Moreover, they are rich in lycopene –which lowers the blood sugar level, purify the skin and prevent cancers. When you hear about lycopene, you might think of tomatoes but watermelons have much more lycopene than tomatoes. We usually eat a lot of watermelon over the summer. It is very common to play the game of “split-the-watermelon.” Let’s have many watermelons and stay healthier next summer.

One of the most popular fruits all over the world–apples are very good one for detox. Two organic acids that apples contain, which are citric acid and malic acid, have many great effects on your health. For instance, they purify your intestines and livers, facilitate the metabolism, and turn lactic acid into energy. Though apples are very common fruits, they have these wonderful effects on our bodies. In my home country, there are many kinds of apples such as Fuji, Tsugaru and Orin. Find your favorite kind and enjoy eating them!

Have you seen Kaki? It is called persimmon in English and looks like orange and round. You can get Kaki mainly in fall –it is rich in fiber, carotin, Vitamin C and tannin. Tannin has a skin pore-tightening effect and also prevents lifestyle-related diseases. In Japan, both normal Kaki and dried Kaki are popular. If you like juicy fruits, you might prefer normal one –but I would recommend you to try both this fall and winter.

9. Nashi (Asian pear)

Do you know what does Nashi look like? The shape is similar to apples but it tastes juicy and fresh. You’ll see this fruit mainly in fall but it would be good if you eat it over the summer since 90% of the fruit is made of water. Nashi contains potassium and stone cells which together excrete sodium and cause a diuretic effect. Nashi is grown all over Japan –so no matter which part of Japan you are visiting or staying, you’ll find unique Nashi in the region. My favorite kind is Housui in Kanto area. Try it if you are near the region.
