7 facts that Japanese Women Love A Trip With Female Friends

It is a fact that Japanese women like traveling with other women; It sometimes seems that everywhere in Japan, or even the world, one can see happy gaggles of Japanese women traveling without men. I don’t like to generalize, there are a few reasons why women enjoy taking trips with girlfriends.

7 facts that Japanese Women Love A Trip With Female Friends!

1. Safety in Numbers

It may be true that women feel safer when traveling in groups, especially abroad. But most Japanese women travel within Japan where safety is much less of an issue, so their tendency to travel together is more about the security of fellowship.

2. Keeping in Touch

Young Japanese often form close and enduring friendships, or fellowships, at High School where some extra-curricular activities attract only girls. It’s difficult to leave such a formative part of our lives behind after graduation, so many young Japanese women feel a strong need to keep in touch over the years.

3. Away From Home

But simply keeping in touch with friends isn’t enough; we want to recapture something of the reliance we once had on each other in a context that is as far from our family and home life as possible. Traveling to unfamiliar places as a group and playing together allows us the freedom to share our innermost hopes and dreams, as we once did as teenagers.

4. Life

Life isn’t just hopes and dreams. Young Japanese women exist between two worlds: the fond and familiar group we were a part of at High School; and the responsibilities looming on the horizon. Careers, marriage and children will gradually pull us away from our friends, so we want to enjoy our fellowship for as long as we still can.

5. Men

traveling with men is different. Men and women think differently and enjoy places differently. Men tend to dictate activities and bore easily, but women enjoy surprises and are more aware of the fabric of life that permeates every corner of the world. Japanese women can find fun and wonder wherever they roam. Young Japanese women will happily queue three hours for a ride at Tokyo Disneyland because they can find the fun in it. Men just don’t get it.

6. Women Are More Fun!

Japanese women love combining skiing and onsen (hot spring bathing) in the same trip! Skiing is a lot of fun, unless, that is, you’re traveling with a man. He’ll treat skiing as a test of his manhood or will insist on instructing you on how to hold your sticks. He won’t appreciate the simple joy in falling on your bum on the lower slopes as other women can. Onsen are typically unisex, so it’s a much more enjoyable experience when one has female friends to share the fun. On one’s own, onsen bathing is no more enjoyable than taking a shower in your hotel room!

7. Food and Sweets

Night life is an excuse for many men on holiday to drink. Of course, women drink too, but we much prefer to eat. We’ll consume just about anything any place has to offer, especially if there’s a buffet, starving ourselves before and after a trip just so we can indulge this passion! We have a sweet tooth as well, so we’re always careful to leave enough room for a dessert or two… or three… or four!

Conclusion

We are sure many would agree that Japanese women are fun-loving and adventurous travelers, and this is to a great extent due to the kind of fellowships we form in our teens. Just writing about this has filled our mind with many happy memories. A lot of people may look forward to the time when they can take trips with some of their life-long girlfriends, happy in the knowledge that they are still there for each other.
